ECO Window Systems Window Replacement: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
Replacing an ECO Window Systems window in San Jose typically costs $650 – $1,150 per window installed, depending on size, glass package, and frame condition. We stock ECO-compatible sashes, balances, weatherstripping, and full replacement windows, and we can usually complete the swap the same day once we’re on site. Most San Jose owners discover the problem the same way: the window suddenly won’t stay up, or there’s a draft in winter and heat bleeding in during August afternoons.
Meridian Windows and Doors San Jose is an independent service provider, not affiliated with ECO Window Systems. We install and replace their products because we know them well enough to spec the right version the first time.
Which ECO Window Systems Models This Applies To
ECO Window Systems builds vinyl and aluminum windows across a wide spread of lines, including single-hung, double-hung, horizontal sliders, and casement styles. The part that fits a 2009 double-hung will not necessarily fit a 2022 slider, even if both carry the ECO name. The quickest route to the right part is the label. Look on the sash or the top of the frame for a serial number and the series identifier. Older ECO units often have the label on the interior sill track where it survives better than on exterior-facing surfaces.
In our San Jose service area, we see a lot of ECO double-hung windows in Willow Glen and Cambrian homes from the mid-2000s onward. The balance systems on those units are the first thing to fail, and the dimension that matters is the sash weight. If the original balances are rated for 14 to 18 pounds and we put in a set rated for 19 to 22, the window will not stay open even if the shoe fits. We measure the sash weight with a scale on site before ordering anything. ECO Window Systems does not sell a universal aftermarket balance retrofit, so the decision between an OEM part and a quality aftermarket equivalent usually comes down to warranty time remaining. If the original window is under warranty, we recommend an OEM part and will help with the claim paperwork. If it’s out of warranty, a quality aftermarket balance from a U.S. manufacturer at $35 – $70 per pair usually matches or exceeds the original spec. We also carry aftermarket tilt latches, pivot bars, and cam locks that fit ECO’s most common series without drilling new holes.
Signs Your ECO Window Systems Window Replacement Is Failing
- Sash drops when you let go. This is the balance system. The spring or spiral balance inside the jamb has lost tension. On double-hung ECO units in San Jose, we see balances wear out faster than average because the repeated thermal cycling of cool foggy mornings and hot valley afternoons degrades the spring steel.
- Air leaks around the sash edges. The weatherstripping has compressed or torn. ECO’s vinyl weatherstripping tends to flatten permanently after about 8 to 10 years in our climate, especially on south and west-facing windows where sun exposure is highest.
- Fog between the glass panes. The seal on the insulated glass unit, or IGU, has failed. This is irreversible; the glass must be replaced. We replace ECO IGUs with the same low-E rating as the original unless the homeowner wants an upgrade to a better solar control coating.
- Window locks and won’t unlock, or unlocks when it shouldn’t. The cam lock or keeper has worn or misaligned. On ECO sliders, the adjustable rollers underneath can also cause this. A small adjustment often fixes it, but a stripped lock needs replacement.
- Visible frame warping or cracking at the corners. This is less common but serious. It usually means the frame was improperly installed or the corner welds have separated. A cracked frame on any window in San Jose means water will get into the wall during winter storms. We replace the whole window, not just the sash, when the frame itself is compromised.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For San Jose, a single ECO Window Systems window replacement runs $650 – $1,150 installed. Here’s the range in plain terms:
- Sash or balance replacement only: $220 – $460. We replace the broken part, clean the track, and adjust the window so it opens and closes properly.
- Insulated glass unit replacement: $280 – $540 per IGU, depending on size and whether the original glass was single or double low-E. We remove the old unit, clean the frame, and set the new IGU with fresh glazing tape.
- Full window replacement (tear-out and new install): $650 – $1,150 per window for a standard-size ECO-compatible vinyl double-hung or slider. Larger units, second-story access, and stucco exterior work push toward the top of that range.
Every quote is written in advance. You get the parts price and the labor price on paper before we order anything, and that number does not move at the door. The work is covered in writing for 365 days under our Done Right Promise. If the window fails during that year, we come back at no charge, no argument. The price also includes haul-away of the old window and debris.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before calling. Look at the label on the sash and note the series. Test the window in each direction and listen for grinding. Check whether the problem is the same on multiple windows or just one. That gives us useful information. What we do not recommend is pulling the sash out and trying to swap balances or weatherstripping yourself. Window balances are under spring tension. If they release while you’re holding the sash, the result is broken fingers or a shattered glass unit. Weatherstripping looks simple until it’s not: the wrong profile gets wasted, and the window still leaks. The trade joke applies here: measure twice, install once. The warranty covers the window, not the gap around it.
We carry ECO-compatible balances, tilt latches, pivot bars, weatherstripping, and cam locks on our trucks, and we install parts from PGT, CGI, and CWS too when the home has a mix of brands. Call (669) 201-3739 with the window model, and we’ll tell you if it’s a truck-stock job or an order-in part.
FAQs
In San Jose’s climate, we generally see 20 to 30 years from the frame and 10 to 15 years from the moving parts, balances, latches, rollers, and weatherstripping. Coastal or hillside exposure shortens both windows. Glass units fail on their own schedule; we’ve replaced 8-year-old seals and 30-year-old glass that was still clear. Call (669) 201-3739 and we can give you a read on your specific windows.
Yes, when the frame is square and the glass is intact. A sash, balance, or hardware issue is a repair, at $220 – $460 in most San Jose cases. When the glass seal fails or the frame is cracked, replacement is the only honest answer, at $650 – $1,150 per window. We’ll tell you which one you need after we look at it. Estimates are free.
Most single-window replacements take 2 to 4 hours from start to clean-up. We protect the floor, remove the old unit, set the new window, insulate and flash the opening, trim the exterior, and haul away the old frame. A full house of windows can stretch across multiple days, but we don’t leave the job exposed overnight. Call (669) 201-3739 and we’ll schedule a time that works.
We stock the common parts on the truck: balances, tilt latches, pivot bars, cam locks, and weatherstripping for ECO’s most-installed San Jose series. Less common sizes or series-specific parts are ordered in, usually arriving within 3 to 5 business days. If it’s urgent, we’ll do what we can. Call (669) 201-3739 with the model number and we’ll check the truck inventory before you spend another day fighting a window.
